Blackheads and whiteheads are very common and they can be very annoying. They occur when our pores become clogged with excess sebum (oil that is created by the sebaceous glands that keeps skin supple) and dead skin cells. The only difference between blackheads and whiteheads is whether or not the pore is open or closed. If the pore is open, the plug of sebum/skin cells oxidizes in contact with oxygen and becomes black.
Scrubbing your face all the time is not a good way to get rid of the blackheads, it can actually worsen the problem. Your skin will end up drying out which will cause more oil to be secreted to make up for everything you stripped away.
How to remove blackheads naturally:
There are many lotions and creams that can help you get rid of the blackheads, but most of these lotions and creams contain toxic chemicals which, in some cases, can have negative effects on your skin.
Luckily, there are home remedies that are completely natural and proven to be very effective. The best thing is, you already have most of the ingredients needed in your kitchen!
1. Baking soda and water
Baking soda is one of the best ingredients to remove blackheads. Sodium Bicarbonate works naturally to remove anything clogging your skin pores.
How to apply:
Note: Remember not to “overdo” this remedy as baking soda is high in pH that can seriously dry out your skin.
2. Cinnamon and lemon juice
Cinnamon and lemon juice are proven to have miraculous effects when treating blackheads.
How to use:
Just mix 3 teaspoons of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder and use the mixture as a facial cleaning agent. Apply it on the affected skin and massage in circular motions. In order to get the best results, leave the mask on overnight and wash your face in the morning. Repeat this process at least once a week.
Note: If you have acne problems you do not need to leave this mask overnight. Just leave the mixture on your face for at least 30 mintues.
3. Sugar and Olive Oil
This is another effective way of removing blackheads. All you have to do is mix 1 teaspoon of sugar with one teaspoon of olive oil and apply the mixture on a cotton pad. Massage the affected areas in circular motions for 1 minute and then rinse your face with lukewarm water.
Note: You can also add a few drops of lemon juice to improve this treatment.
4. The toothpaste solution (works like a miracle)
I can say that this toothpaste trick is the most effective one. Toothpaste works in a way that it’s drawing out all the impurities as it solidifies.
How to apply:
Wash your face completely with a tender and mild cleaning agent. After cleaning your face, apply a little bit of toothpaste on the clogged pores (the toothpaste should be white, not the gel sort).
When the toothpaste dries (takes roughly 2 minutes) it will decrease any swelling of the acne. Once dried, tenderly rub the toothpaste in roundabout movement to remove your blackheads. The blackheads will gradually dislodge with the toothpaste. Wash your face with lukewarm water.
