So many people who are dealing with lower back pain are also experiencing radiculopathy or sciatica. They usually feel symptoms like numbness, mild burning sensation, needles and pins, tingling, ants, shooting pains or electricity type feelings around the hips all through their legs.

Piriformis syndrome, sciatica and lower back pain cause extreme pain and even though many people have the symptoms associated with these health conditions, the methods used for their treatment vary.sciatica pain relief

To treat this pain effectively and help their patients, many healthcare professional decided to develop a concept called centralization, which is pretty much the idea that the pain should move up in the lower back while you are healing.

There is a great possibility that this procedure will intensify the pain, but this is a clear indicator that the treatment is providing positive effects. If the leg pain and symptoms are alleviated, then, this method is working. Most often, back pain doesn’t increase much by so-called self-reported VAS.

[the_ad id=”4150″]Centralization is a basic concept of the McKenzie method of treatment. Any evidence that confirms this hypothesis would defiantly add credibility and relevance to this method. Werneke decided to perform an examination in 2008, which should have recorded the symptoms reported by patients who were following centralization and if the result were helpful or not.

Patients suffering from cervical and lumbar syndromes were healed with different methods, not just with McKenzie.

The things that were found out about this study were astonishing. Just 17% patients showed any symptoms linked to centralization. Maybe the results were influenced but the type of the injury, the time frame in which the treatments were done and the type of treatments these patients have followed.

It was evident that centralization patients had more severe symptoms than patients that were younger with better health.

Noncentralization was linked to lower the ability and functional task testing, significantly had high higher pain results in patients with lumbar symptoms. The people with cervical pain, noncentralization was also linked to a much higher pain rating but all the other indicators were exactly the same.

We have to talk about the final results as they were not affected by the number of visits. To be honest, centralization helped the prediction of pain status and functional status with lumbar pain.

On the other hand, McKenzie tried to give patients another solution to these problems. He was famous PT and an experienced specialist focused on reduction of pain linked to disc issues.

This is a condition that is characterized by pain and begins from the glutes and goes all the way down to the toes which affects the entire leg.

This sensation feels like tingling or a numbing pain that you can feel no matter what position you are in, standing, laying, sitting or walking.

He created an exercise that could help in cases like this. It is called the “the McKenzie press up” and has so many people already. It soothes pain and centralizes the pain in the lower back which is very beneficial.
