Back in 1999, scientists in Argentina have discovered a frozen mummy of a 15-year-old girl. The girl was nicknamed as “The Maiden”. What’s interesting is that even though the body was lifeless for 500 years, it was unimaginably well preserved!

According to foreign media,¬†“The Maiden”¬†belonged to the Inca tribe and was sacrificed to the gods for religion. Long ago in Argentina, the Incas would sacrifice children after an important event as an offering to their gods.

But what makes this very interesting is that recently scientists have discovered that the 500 year old frozen girl had a bacterial infection at the time she was sacrificed. The bacterial infection is very similar to modern day tuberculosis.

According to scientists, this discovery could help to fight new illnesses or reemerging illnesses that are affecting modern-day people.
