Why You Should Eat Bee Glue Every Day – Health Benefits Of Propolis

Apart from making honey and royal jelly, bees also use the resin of trees to create propolis. After gathering the resin, they transform it into a very sticky and antimicrobial mixture that they use to patch up their hive. Because of its antimicrobial properties, it also helps disinfect the hive and prevent outbreaks of viruses and bacteria. Additionally, bees also use propolis to immobilize intruders. So basically, propolis is considered as bee duct tape!

What’s very interesting is that researchers at the University of Minnesota found that bees housed in a nest box coated with propolis had lower bacterial loads in their body and also ‘quieter’ immune systems compared to the colonies who lived without propolis coating.

Even though bees never consume propolis, this unique substance is vital to their immune system and ultimately, survival. Because of the same properties and benefits, propolis can boost our immune system and overall wellness.

Why You Should Consume Propolis

1. General Immune System Support – There are many ways in which propolis can support our immune system. First, its antimicrobial properties suppress harmful bacteria and infections. It also stimulates the immune system, thus raising the body’s natural resistance.

Next time you feel something coming on, take a dose of propolis and you will feel better the next day.

2. Acne – Propolis is found to improve skin and reduce breakouts when used either internally or externally. One study showed that propolis fights the bacteria primarily responsible for breakouts.

We suggest that you use propolis internally (see how at the end of this post), however, you can also use propolis externally. Just dab propolis honey directly onto the affected area of the skin and leave it on for 5 – 15 minutes.

Note: Do a test first to see if your skin reacts.

3. Improved Energy – There are many people who report “improved energy” just by taking propolis daily. Even though there is no clinical research backing this up, I’ve found this true in my own experience.

After i started taking this bee glue daily, I experienced a higher sense of productivity – a general “get it done!” attitude. It’s not something like a caffeine buzz, instead it’s just a very gentle boost of energy throughout the day. However, since I’m very sensitive to all foods and supplements, my experience may not necessarily be your experience.

Other Health Benefits

Parasites – One study showed the potential use of propolis for parasite treatment as the preliminary trial showed that those who took propolis experienced a 52 to 60 percent success rate in the elimination of the parasite giardiasis.

Canker Sores – There are many people who claim they’ve experienced quick relief from canker sores just by applying a drop of propolis tincture directly to the sore 2-3 times per day.

Endometriosis – Endometriosis is a condition that affects a woman’s reproductive organs. It is a disorder where the tissue lining the uterus grows outside of the uterus into other organs of the body. It causes pain, fatigue, bowel issues, infertility and more. One study showed that women who took propolis had a pregnancy success rate of 60% compared to 20% of the ones taking the placebo.

Cavities – In one study conducted on animals, propolis cut cavity rates by up to 60% and partially impaired the enzyme that causes dental plaque. Dab propolis tincture directly on the cavities a few times per day. This all-natural propolis toothpaste (it contains purified water, baking soda, xanthan gum, propolis extract, grapefruit oil, clove oil, tea tree oil) provides the powerful cavity-fighting compounds directly to the teeth.

How to take propolis:

Here are a few options for taking propolis:

You can take organic propolis and raw honey blend. A general dose suggestion is 1/2 teaspoon twice per day. You can eat it straight out of the jar – it’s delicious! It can also be applied topically for acne.

Another way is a propolis tincture. Just mix 5 drops with a little bit of honey and swallow it. A general dose suggestion is 3 times per day.

There are also propolis capsules, but I personally don’t like them because you can’t use them topically. However, if you decide to go for it, you should take 1-2 capsules twice per day.
